Georgia approved CNA schools must contain a minimum of 85 hours in duration. Course work must include classroom and laboratory in addition to a minimum of 24 hours of clinical experience in a nursing home.

In Georgia to Become a Certified Nursing Assistant one must

  • Obtain your high school diploma or GED
  • Complete State-approved program with at least 85 hours of clinical and classroom-based training
  • Register and sit for the Georgia skills and competency exam. Pearson VUE is the company that administers the Georgia CNA exam
  • renew your certification every two years by proving you have worked at least eight hours in the last 24 months

A minimum of sixteen hours class training, containing six areas prior to any direct contact with a resident must include :

  • Communication and interpersonal skills (to include stress management)
  • Infection control
  • Safety/emergency/FBAO/Body Mechanics
  • Promoting residents’ independence
  • Respecting residents’ rights
  • Legal/ethical behavior and scope of practice
