The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in Minnesota is a federal program that gives workers the chance to learn the skills and the resources that are needed to compete in the economy. Under Minnesota WIA, training programs are certified as meeting certain operation values.  Those who are eligible Minnesotans can use federal WIA funds to pay for patient care technician training programs that are certified. Workforce Investment Act certified training programs include registered apprenticeship training with the  Department of Labor and Industry, Apprenticeship Unit.

You can also use the internet to search hospitals bulletin boards and announcements, local clinics, message boards and facebook to locate free patient care technician training in your area.

Depending where you work in Minnesota as a patient care tech, will determine the job duties that you will encounter.  For example if you are employed at a medical laboratory, you may be responsible for collecting specimens.  If you work for the Red Cross your responsibilities may include providing wound care.
