In South Carolina the home health aides can work independently without specific training or certification. Any time an individual provides direct patient care in South Carolina, they are required to undergo a criminal background check. Home health aide wanting to become employee of a Medicare certified agency, they must meet the federal minimum requirements of 75 training hours.
During your home health aide classes, you will have gained the knowledge and the skills to tackle the tasks required of you to become a HHA. You may have to provide proof that you have mastered these skills by taking and passing a competency exam.
After meeting the states requirements for the training, graduates of the classes can then begin looking for a job in your area. The pay for home health aides generally is determined by the skills that you have required, the number of years you have experience and the location of the job. Larger cities often pay home health aides a larger salary.
