Long Term Care Ombudsman
There are long-term care ombudsman located in every state. The LTC ombudsman are advocates for residents of nursing homes, care and board homes and assisted living facilities. They provide vital information about how to find a facility and what to do to get excellence care. The Ombudsman are also trained to resolve problems. The ombudsman can provide assistance with certified nursing assistant to help resolve any complaints.
What does a Long-Term Care Ombudsman do?
- They resolves the complaints made by or for the residents of ltc facilities
- They educate the LTC long-term care providers and the community about residents' rights and care practices
- Encourage the community partaking through volunteer opportunities
- They supply the information to the public about area nursing homes and other long-term care facilities and the services offered, such as residents' rights, legislative and policy matters
- They advocates for the excellent care in nursing homes, residential care and LTC facilities and the rights of residents
- Promotes the improvements of citizen organizations, family councils and resident councils
Who Can Use the services that is offered by the Ombudsman?
- Any residents that resides in any nursing home or board and care facility, which includes assisted living facilities
- Family or friends of a nursing home resident
- Nursing home administrators or any employee that has a concern regarding a resident at their facility
- Individual or any citizen's group that has an interest in the wellbeing of residents
- Families and individuals who may be taking into consideration long-term care placement
Concerns that the Long term care Ombudsman May Address
- Violations that may impact a residents' rights or dignity
- Any form of abuse, such as Physical, verbal or mental abuse. Any denial of services that are necessary to maintain a residents' physical, mental health, or any unreasonable confinement
- Deprived quality of care, that may include inadequate personal hygiene and slow response to requests for assistance
- An Improper transfer or discharge of patient
- The Inappropriate use of chemical or physical restraints
- A resident that has concerns about quality of care or quality of life
Every state, under the federal Older Americans Act, is required to have an Ombudsman Program that addresses the complaints and advocates for improvements in the long-term care system.
