Arkansas Patient Care Technician Training

The Arkansas patient care technician training expands the trainees  knowledge of healthcare that was gained in the CNA course.  The training introduces advanced patient care skills, professional skills development, and hands on lab and clinical training at laboratory or at area hospitals.

Some patient care technician training schools in Arkansas address patient care needs and the techniques that are unique to acute care hospitals. The training programs may offer CPR Certification.

The Arkansas patient care technician duties may include

  • Assisting with wound care,
  • Testing venipuncture specimens,
  • Performing EKG’s
  • Advanced CNA Skills

Many of the Arkansas patient care technician training programs require that the applicants have one of the following prior to enrolling. 

  • Be listed on the state registry as an Arkansas Certified Nursing Assistant,
  • Have completed an Arkansas approved CNA course, or have
  • Completed the first semester of a nursing class

Students enrolled in the PCT course will gain the knowledge, clinical skills and work habits required to pursue a position in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, long term care facilities, medical offices and labs.  PCTs are part of the healthcare team and are qualified to work under the supervision of licensed professional personnel and alongside other healthcare providers.  The role of the PCT includes duties traditionally performed by staff from several different departments such as nursing, laboratory, EKG and respiratory.  There is a need for cross-trained healthcare workers in all types of healthcare facilities.
