Patient Care Technician

Patient Care Technicians in West Virginia provide the routine care to patients and can work in diverse departments under the supervision of the licensed personnel, including RNs, LPN, and the Laboratory as well as Cardiology supervisors. Under this supervision the patient care technician may perform the tasks involving direct and indirect patient care, which may include peripheral venous blood draw and capillary blood glucose checks, transferring patient and, and documentation .

Upon completion of several of the patient care technician training in West Virginia, the graduates will:

To become deemed eligible to sit for Patient Care Technician certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
Sit for separate Direct Healthcare Worker Certification, Phlebotomy Technician Certification, EKG Technician Certification.
Gain the  CPR and the First Aid certifications.
Become qualified to obtain employment at a Health Care Facility or transfer/matriculate to an Associate or Bachelor Degree Program in Health Care.

All of these certifications are not available at all patient care technician training classes.  To make a good patient care tech individuals should have personal service skills, great listening skills, perceptiveness of social actions, Critical Thinking skills, a want to help people, and the ability to communicate well with others.
